Paolo Campinoti tells the reporter of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Paolo Ianieri, the origins of Pramac's adventure in MotoGP. A fascinating journey which in its 15th anniversary has been told by the main Italian sports newspaper on the eve of the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen.
“If you try to call him, nine times out of ten he is abroad for work: Abu Dhabi, the United States, Spain, China, Brazil ... Paolo Campinoti lives with a suitcase, traveling the world to do business for Pramac.
For those who are fans about racing and motorcycle, Pramac is the team that this year relies on Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding on Ducati GP15 MotoGP, but firstly Pramac is a leading actor in the industry of the power generators and material handling equipment and employs 750 people among 4 factories (headquarters at Casole d'Elsa, province of Siena then Spain, China and Brazil), with 15 branches worldwide, and with a turnover that in 2015 reached 170 million.
It all began in 1966, when the Campinoti family founded “L’Europea” a construction equipment business company.
Then over the years there has been the transformation, " - says Campinoti - that led to Pramac, an acronym of the family names: Paolo, Riccardo, Alessandro, Mario, Adriana Campinoti.
“L’Europea” was also sponsor on Fisichella and Wurz’s Benetton F1, but it is thanks to the relationship born with Honda for the supply of generators, that Pramac entered the racing world.
"It was 2002 and first it was just for fun, saving the team of Jeff Hardwick and deploying Tetsuya Harada. Then we liked it and it became part of the company business: the nocturnal GP circuits in Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Singapore use our generator sets, " recalls Campinoti who crosses the line of his 49 years on Friday at the Sachsenring.
He will celebrate his birthday on Saturday having a big dinner party at the hospitality with other two well-known celebrating people: the general manager of Ducati, Gigi Dall'Igna, who has turned his 50ies two days ago, and the No. 1 of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, who on that day will celebrate his 70ies.”
